Our Farm
Hollow Trees Farm is a 140 acre mixed farm, growing vegetables and producing pork beef and lamb all for the farm shop as well as balancing the needs of wildlife, conservation and the busy education programme that runs each year.
Hollow Trees Farm is part of a Stewardship scheme that encourages farmers to farm for the benefit of wildlife and the environment. Below are just a few things we do to keep our farm and nature in balance and harmony.
8 metre bare strips left around the fields without any crops to encourage wildlife
Winter seed mixes to feed the hungry birds in the winter
Owl nesting boxed erected to encourage them to breed
A programme of restoration for the thirteen ponds we have on the farm to provide rich wildlife habitats
Robert writes....
Having lived on the farm all my life it gets in your blood. The adage that we are only custodians of the land for the short time we are here rings very true. Farmers always strive to pass on their farms in an improved condition to when they started .Better machinery has sped up work beyond anything my grandfather could have imagined .This has had the benefit of getting the job done on time in the correct weather.
The perceived battle of farming versus environment is over. Farming and the environment are bed fellows here at Hollow Trees Farm . I take as much pleasure from seeing a field with a good crop of seed grown for feeding wild birds during the winter or a field full of nectar and pollen rich plants for bees and butterflies as I do from a field of stunning fresh vegetables being harvested for the farm shop.
We hope you enjoy Hollow Trees Farm.
